Sunday, December 17, 2017

Dear Parents,

Congratulations to Sherise for being our marvelous MVP of the week!  We enjoyed learning more about our special friend when she shared her banner with us on Monday.

Wow! What a fun and exciting week! Thank you for all of the support you provided to make December ‘Round the World a success!  I am so PROUD of our 3rd graders and, most of all, thank you to Mrs. Martin for her leadership and time!

Also, we had a magical time at the Austin Nutcracker Ballet at the Long Center. It is by far one of my favorite ballets. It definitely puts me in the holiday spirit, and our third graders were amazing.

Finally, thank you PTA for providing the yummy cookies for the annual staff cookie swap! It is such a treat and my family and I truly appreciate them!

It is hard believe it is the last week of school before winter break. This fall semester has really flown by. I am so proud of the hard work all of the students have done so far, and very excited to see how much more they will accomplish when we start the new year and spring semester. Thank you for the continued support, and I hope to see all of you at our Winter Party on Thursday at 2:00 pm.

Enjoying your children,
Mrs. McDonald

I am super excited for you all to join us for the December ‘Round the World performance on Wednesday, December 13th at 8:00 a.m. This magical musical definitely puts me in the holiday spirits. I am so proud of our 3rd graders, and a HUGE thank you to Mrs. Martin!

Dear Parents,

Congratulations to Jaxon for being our MVP of the week. We enjoyed learning more about our special classmate when he shared his banner with us on Wednesday.

We are very excited about our field trip to see the performance of “Ramona Quimby” by the WWHS theater department on Tuesday, November 14th.  Please sign and return the permission slip and $3 admission fee as soon as possible.  We will be eating lunch when we arrive back at school, but just in case we are late for our regularly scheduled lunch, it’s a good idea for students to bring a lunch home that we can eat in our classrooms.

On Friday, November 17, our third graders will participate in a cross- cultural exploration of the classic story Stone Soup. We will be cooking and eating a batch of our own stone soup in class that day.  I will be sending a Sign-Up Genius this week if you would like to donate items for this activity. Please send your items in on Thursday, November 16. Thank you for your donations!

It's hard to believe that we are just weeks away from the Thanksgiving break!  I thank you in advance for the continued support on nightly homework as we are getting into the season of busy evenings.
Enjoying your children,

Mrs. McDonald

Dear Parents,

Congratulations to JingBin for being our MVP of the week. We enjoyed learning more about our special classmate when he shared his banner with us on Monday.

Happy Birthday to Kevin on October 23!

Students enjoyed blasts from the past at our Friday assembly! We welcomed returning teachers, students and friends of CCE.  Coach Tighe even treated us to the announcements 1998 style!  Here’s to 20 more years!

Red Ribbon Week was a huge success! We focused this week on making healthy choices for ourselves and we“REFLECTed” on what that neans to us. We had fun with crazy socks, crazy hair, and team jerseys!
Thank you PTA for providing lunch for the CCE staff on Friday.  It sure was delicious, and we truly appreciate your hospitality.
This first half of third grade is zooming by! This week promises to keep the busy feeling going with not only all the amazing things we are learning everyday in the classroom, but we also have the excitement of Halloween thrown in there, as well. I hope you all have a fun and safe Halloween night!
Gratefully,

Mrs. McDonald

Dear Parents,

It was so wonderful to sit down and chat with each of you and discuss your child’s accomplishments so far this year and the goals we will be working on in 3rd grade. The school year has really started off great, and I can’t wait to see how much they learn and grow this year.

Congratulations to our Student Council representatives for this year: Allie and Ishaan! Thank you also to Cruz and Jillian for their spectacular speeches. I am so proud of these kiddos for running for Student Council!  It is great to know we have so many students in our class willing to take on leadership roles.

Happy Birthday to Jillian on October 10!

Thank you for your support as many of you have made your donation to our classroom fund for our parties and various activities throughout the year.  Please return your form as soon as you can, as preparations for 3rd grade activities are under way. I truly appreciate your generosity!

Dear Parents,

A big thank you to all our wonderful parents who provided the delicious feast on Friday! It was definitely yummy!

Seeing the wonderful turn out on Tuesday’s Create Peace Night was so amazing! The children had a fantastic art experience and enjoyed their time with you and their friends.

Congratulations to Siya for being our MVP this week! We enjoyed learning more about our special classmate when she shared her banner with us on Monday!

The next great school-wide event was launched this week - the library Saddle Up and Read program and Bluebonnet Book program.  Details are online and the form was in your child’s Tuesday folder.

Don’t forget our parent conferences start next week.  Email me or login to Sign-Up Genius if you need to reschedule.  I look forward to visiting with you about your child’s goals.

If you have not already, please send in a pair of inexpensive earbuds or headphones for your child to use with our computers and laptops.  They will need to stay at school for the duration of the year.

Finally, planners are your student’s best friend! Be sure to review planners and important dates in the newsletter.

Enjoying your children,
Mrs. McDonald

Dear Parents,

Great news from this week…we are officially at S.H.I.N.E. class!  That means we are Supportive, Helpful, Inclusive, Non-stop Encouragers!  I  am so proud of these kiddos for being such great students, friends, and role models.  Please stop by our classroom to check out the award certificate!

Many thanks for the donations to our Book Buck Library program! You have been extremely generous, and I truly appreciate it. I will be placing our Scholastic order soon, as I work to stock our Book Buck Library.

If you have not  signed up for a Fall Conference, please do so as soon as possible.  Fall conferences are a great time to learn more about how to help your child with reading, writing, spelling, and math.  In third grade, the conferences are parent-teacher conferences, so please make childcare arrangements for your 20-minute slot.  Your third grader will be providing input into the conference before the adults get together to talk about goals for your child. I look forward to our conferences!  Also, please don’t forget to turn in the conference form and MVP letter!

Finally, please send in with your child a pair of inexpensive earbuds or headphones. They will need these to do work on the laptops/chromebooks.  You child will keep these at school until the end of the year.

Thanks so much for everything you do!

Enjoying your children,
Mrs. McDonald

Dear Parents

What an amazing turn out for Back to School Night! I truly appreciate your support and I’m very excited to meet with you all during Fall Conference week.  A Sign-Up Genius will be going out soon for our fall conferences.  Most of my conferences will take place on October 9th. This is a student holiday, so I am holding them throughout the day.  Conferences are a great time to learn more about how to help your child with reading, writing, spelling, and math.  In third grade, the conferences are parent-teacher conferences, so please make childcare arrangements for your 20-minute slot.

Tuesday evening, you received a conference goal sheet to complete.  Once I have received your completed form, I will fill in the “T” (teacher) sections.  Please note that the “Goals” section will be finished during our conference time. Please return your completed conference form, the MVP letter, and the Book Buck Library contributions to me by Tuesday, September 26th.  If you were unable to attend the Back to School Night, your child’s forms will be in this week’s Tuesday folder.  Let me know if you have questions about any of these forms.

I forgot to mention in the last blog post that our class won the Golden Spatula Award last week! This award is given out to classes who have good manners in the lunchroom.  We have the award certificate and “golden spatula” spirit stick hanging outside our classroom door.  I am so proud of these kiddos!

Finally, thanks so much for all the Box Top labels that have already been turned in.  The annual Box Top contest runs through October 6 and the competition is FIERCE!!  The top 5 classes who turn in the most Box Top labels receive some awesome prizes.  Also, don’t forget HEB runs a promotion (Sept. 6 - 19) in whereby if you purchase 10 Box Top items you receive 60 bonus Box Tops and if you purchase 15 Box Top items you receive 100 bonus Box Tops.  You can find a list of participating products here: http://www.boxtops4education.com/earn/ participating-products.  If nothing else, you could stock up on your Green Giant canned veggies and earn a certificate pretty cheaply.  HEB also currently has an in-store coupon (valid until Sept 19th) for certain Green Giant canned vegetables. Just a thought! :)

Thanks so much for all of your support and enjoy your week!

Warmly,
Mrs. McDonald
