April is here!

Dear Parents,

Congratulations to Varun for being our marvelous MVP of the week! We enjoyed learning more about our special friend when he shared his banner with us on Monday.

Happy Birthday to Manu on Saturday!

A BIG “thank you” to our amazing PTA for providing such a yummy Friday Feast.  We appreciate your kindness.

Our annual Expo was a smashing success! Our profit was an astounding $1,737.97 .  The Expo was so much fun, and it was exciting to see the children sell their fabulous products. Third graders learned about economics through this unit, and we can definitely see some future entrepreneurs. We truly appreciate the support you extended while helping your child make his/her products, and the time you took out of your busy schedules to bake. Of course, your purchases of fine merchandise were the reason we were able to surpass our goal. We know Austin Pets Alive will be thrilled with our donation. Thank you!

Gratefully,
Mrs. McDonald

ROBO LAB
It's time for Robolab! In the spring session, 3rd graders will explore the idea of self-driving cars. We'll build a Lego vehicle, learn the basics of Mindstorms programming, then program our cars to drive around "town" on their own.

Parent volunteers help make Robolab even more fun for everyone. Come join your child and see what they are doing! You do not need to know anything about Legos or programming; you only need to encourage and support them while they program and build. If you can't come for an entire time slot, that's fine! Just add a comment to your signup letting me know what times you will be there.
See the link below for more information, and I hope to see you in Robolab soon!

SINGING STARS NEWS
The CCE Singing Stars Choir will perform the National Anthem Sunday, April 28th at 1:05 p.m. at the Round Rock Express baseball game. We have reserved a large block of infield reserved seat tickets in Section 113 for the game at a discounted rate of $12.00 per ticket. (There is an extra charge for parking at the stadium) Sundays are Kids Days, so there are several activities at the stadium geared toward kids.  The RR Express uses Groupmatics for group sales now so your ticket purchases will be easy and online. To purchase tickets go here.

We hope to have a large CCE presence at the game! We were told by the Express staff that CCE Singing Stars Choir is the only group that has performed the National Anthem ALL 20 years of their existence! Quite a tradition!

SPRING FEVER
With increased frequency we’ve been hearing,  “Oops, I forgot” when collecting homework, planners, and reading logs. We still have about nine more weeks of school, and we need each of our students to be present and prepared for the day. Please continue to make school a priority even in the busy days of spring sports and outdoor activities. Be sure to check your child’s  planners and for homework nightly. Thank you!

HOMEWORK
Planners are completed daily.  Please check and initial your child’s planner nightly.

Students are required to read for a minimum of 20 minutes per night and record a quick response on their reading logs. Signed logs are DUE every Wednesday. Book Bucks are earned with every 100 minutes read. Students can “purchase” books from our “Book Buck Libraries” with 10 book bucks.

Nightly reading is crucial to your child's overall reading success. Reading should be an interactive process, so please remember to initial or sign your child's log before turning it in on Wednesday.

Students should practice math skills 10 minutes nightly.  This could be anything from Education Galaxy, to flashcards or even a series of problems written by a parent.

Each FRIDAY students will receive spelling lists and work. Practice spelling the words correctly and complete the homework packet due each THURSDAY. Spelling Tests will be administered on Fridays.

Thank you to Jeanette Dunbar, Chantelle Askins, Anusha Swaminathan, and Sri Kommana for being amazing chaperones for our Field Trip to the Umlauf and Blanton Museum. We enjoyed our visits, and we were able to experience a broad range of artistic expression and history.

Spring Has Sprung!

Dear Parents,

Congratulations to Ivor for being our marvelous MVP of the week! We enjoyed learning more about our special classmate when he shared his banner with us.

I hope you all had a chance to stop by the Multicultural Fair on Friday. I enjoyed hearing about all the different cultures we have right here in our classroom. We learned about yummy foods, clothing, and interesting ancestors.

On Wednesday, March 13th, third grade students will go on an art field trip to the Blanton and Umlauf art galleries. Please wear any CCE t-shirt, and send a labeled sack lunch, disposable drink, and snacks for your child.  We plan to leave CCE around 9:15 and will be visiting the Blanton first. Thank you to those who have volunteered to be chaperones on this fun field trip.

Enjoying your children,
Mrs. McDonald
