Dear Parents,

We have had a wonderful last week of third grade full of adventure and fun. I truly appreciate all of your hard work, support, and time to make our events special and festive. Thank you to our amazing room moms and parents for organizing our End of the Year Party. What a joyful celebration. Most importantly, thank you for the thoughtful gifts, heart warming cards, and all the hugs!

This has been a stellar year!. Together we have learned, laughed, and enjoyed being with each other. Our class family is one to treasure for years to come, and I am grateful to have been a small part of their development.

Have a wonderful summer with lots of exciting family time.  Chill out together with a good book, and relax the days away.  I know I will miss the smiling faces, loving hugs, and kind hearts of all of my students.. Look forward to seeing your awesome fourth grader in the fall!

Fondly,
Mrs. McDonald

Dear Parents,

What a FUN week of learning! Thank you parents for volunteering your time. Fishing Day and our field trip was a huge success because of YOU! Our third graders had a great time on Fishing Day at Trailhead Park. They learned how to cast a fishing pole and even caught some fish, competed in water safety relay races, and created a fish craft on CD's. FUN day was had by ALL!

Friday was hot and humid, but we sure enjoyed seeing the colorful flowers, butterflies fluttering, and hiking on the beautiful trails at Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center. We had an adventurous time!

Monday is our annual Camping Day. The children chose their own state park campistes and even came up with camp names. Their backpacks are ready! We are looking forward to spending some time camping outdoors in our tents and learning more about nature. Please remind your child that they can either bring a sack lunch or buy lunch from the cafeteria. They can also bring a towel or small blanket to sit on, a good book to read, and card games or a small, compact board game to play. Remember to dress comfy and apply sunscreen before coming to school.

Our annual field day is Tuesday, May 21st.  It is going to be a full day of exciting activities! Students should bring a towel, a change of clothes, and a refillable water bottle to stay hydrated.  They also should wear closed-toed shoes or water shoes (no flip-flops, please). Some of our activities will involve getting wet! Students are allowed to wear swimsuits as long as they wear t-shirts or cover ups that follow our district dress code policy. The new Comets Field Day t-shirt would be a great choice as a cover-up! Please be sure to apply sunscreen at home, as we are the first group to participate!

Happy Early Birthday to Benny! We enjoyed celebrating his special day this week!

DROP OFF/PICK UP CHANGE
All cars must use the First Grade car rider line for drop off and pick up on Field Day. Please allow a little extra time on this day. There will be no parking on the west side of the school that day. Please keep our students safe and follow the directions from our staff and safety patrol.

VOLUNTEERS
If you are volunteering on Field Day, thank you! We will have charts to explain where to go and what time!

CANYON CREEK COOKOUT
We would like to invite all families to join us for lunch on our CookOut day! Please come Tuesday, May 21st (Field Day) during your child’s regularly scheduled lunchtime. Corn Dogs or Grilled Cheese Sandwiches are on the menu!!! The cost per meal for guests is $3.65, paid at the door. Exact change is appreciated. I hope you can join us.

END OF YEAR CLASS PARTY

Dear Parents,

Happy Early Birthday to Aya, Elly, Mantra, and London, and Happy Late Birthday to Lucas! We enjoyed celebrating their special days this week!

Thank you for an amazing week!  I LOVE all my thoughtful cards and notes, the yummy snacks, generous gifts, and awesome books for our classroom library. You all sure know how to make a teacher feel very special and appreciated!

Also, thank you to our amazing PTA parents for hosting Friday Feast.  As always, the food was delicious! What a great week to be a Canyon Creek teacher!

The Third Grade Showcase was such a success!  You all are so awesome for taking the time to come and support your third grader while he/she showed off some of his/her best work and most recent projects.  I am so proud of the kiddos and know they are looking forward to being a fourth grader!

The days are flying by as we head into summer.  Our last two testing days are Monday and Tuesday. Students will be taking the Math & Reading STAAR tests on Monday, May 13th and Tuesday, May 14th. Please remember that your child will perform best if he/she has a good night’s sleep, eat a hearty breakfast, and arrive on time to school. The third grade team will provide snacks and water for both days. Your child may bring additional easy to eat, dry snacks.  Please avoid snacks that are cheesy and/or greasy.

It has been said that, “Mothers hold their children’s hands for a while, but their hearts forever.” May your Mother’s Day be filled with love and appreciation for all that you do! Wishing you a lovely day!

Happy Mother’s Day!

Dear Parents,

Our amazing CCE third graders, with the help of our supportive CCE community, raised $1605.50 at the annual CCE Third Grade Economics Expo. Friday, students presented Austin Pets Alive! Associate, Amanda Williams, with a check to support their mission to pioneer lifesaving programs designed to save the animals most at risk from euthanasia. So PROUD of our Comets!

A great big thank you to our Third Grade Canyon Creek families and the PTA for today’s Friday Feast and its delicious taste from around the world.  We always feel so appreciated with the amazing dishes you send in.

If you are interested in volunteering to be a chaperone for our field trip to the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, please send me an email. You can also check the “chaperone”  box on the permission slip before sending it back to school. We would LOVE to have at least 4 or more chaperones, and so I hope that you can join us.

THIRD GRADE CAMPING DAY AND UNIT
We have so many memorable activities planned for the end of the year!  Third grade has a tradition of ending the school year with a camping unit. The objectives will include students researching a Texas state park and planning an imaginary camping trip to that park, but we will do much more than that. This unit will involve all content areas: Reading, Writing, Math, Social Studies, and Science.

This unit is always a highlight of third grade. To plan their camping trips, the children will need advertising circulars from grocery stores as well as flyers or catalogs from outdoor recreation stores. Each student will pack a "suitcase" with pictures of all the items they will need for a 5-day camping trip. Each group of 4-5 students will plan menus for 5 days. They will need pictures of the grocery items. So, don’t recycle ads from HEB, Target, Academy, REI, Sports Authority, Cabelas, etc. Many of the stores have circulars available as you enter their store. Please grab several copies. Thank you so much for helping us gather materials.

Dear Parents,

Congratulations to Exodus for being our marvelous MVP of the week! We enjoyed learning more about our special friend when he shared his banner with us on Tuesday.

Happy Birthday to Ivor on Saturday!

Please make note that our fourth and fifth grade students will be taking the STAAR test on Tuesday and Wednesday. Our campus will be closed to visitors. We ask that all parents refrain from eating lunch with their children these two days. Our lunch schedule will be adjusted for testing, so we cannot guarantee what time your children will be in the lunchroom. Parents are welcome to visit during lunch on any other days.

COMETS FIELD DAY T-SHIRTS!
Order forms have been sent home for Comets Field Day shirts! This year's shirt is cardinal red with a Comet design in white, gray, and black. Stop by the CCE Office to see sample shirts and check sizing. The deadline for ordering the shirts is April 17th. The proceeds from the sale of t-shirts helps pay for the water slides for Field Day. The Essentials teachers thank you for your support!

ROBO LAB
It's time for Robolab! In the spring session, 3rd graders will explore the idea of self-driving cars. We'll build a Lego vehicle, learn the basics of Mindstorms programming, then program our cars to drive around "town" on their own.

Parent volunteers help make Robolab even more fun for everyone. Come join your child and see what they are doing! You do not need to know anything about Legos or programming; you only need to encourage and support them while they program and build. If you can't come for an entire time slot, that's fine! Just add a comment to your signup letting me know what times you will be there.
See the link below for more information, and I hope to see you in Robolab soon!

April is here!

Dear Parents,

Congratulations to Varun for being our marvelous MVP of the week! We enjoyed learning more about our special friend when he shared his banner with us on Monday.

Happy Birthday to Manu on Saturday!

A BIG “thank you” to our amazing PTA for providing such a yummy Friday Feast.  We appreciate your kindness.

Our annual Expo was a smashing success! Our profit was an astounding $1,737.97 .  The Expo was so much fun, and it was exciting to see the children sell their fabulous products. Third graders learned about economics through this unit, and we can definitely see some future entrepreneurs. We truly appreciate the support you extended while helping your child make his/her products, and the time you took out of your busy schedules to bake. Of course, your purchases of fine merchandise were the reason we were able to surpass our goal. We know Austin Pets Alive will be thrilled with our donation. Thank you!

Gratefully,
Mrs. McDonald

SPRING FEVER
With increased frequency we’ve been hearing,  “Oops, I forgot” when collecting homework, planners, and reading logs. We still have about nine more weeks of school, and we need each of our students to be present and prepared for the day. Please continue to make school a priority even in the busy days of spring sports and outdoor activities. Be sure to check your child’s  planners and for homework nightly. Thank you!

Spring Has Sprung!

Dear Parents,

Congratulations to Ivor for being our marvelous MVP of the week! We enjoyed learning more about our special classmate when he shared his banner with us.

I hope you all had a chance to stop by the Multicultural Fair on Friday. I enjoyed hearing about all the different cultures we have right here in our classroom. We learned about yummy foods, clothing, and interesting ancestors.

On Wednesday, March 13th, third grade students will go on an art field trip to the Blanton and Umlauf art galleries. Please wear any CCE t-shirt, and send a labeled sack lunch, disposable drink, and snacks for your child.  We plan to leave CCE around 9:15 and will be visiting the Blanton first. Thank you to those who have volunteered to be chaperones on this fun field trip.

Enjoying your children,
Mrs. McDonald
