Truly Thankful

Dear Parents,

Congratulations to Lucia for being our marvelous MVP of the week! We enjoyed learning more about our special classmate when she shared her banner with us.

Our Annual Thanksgiving Day Feast is Wednesday, November 14th during your child’s regular lunch time (12:12-12:42).  If you RSVP’d to eat, please be sure to bring cash to pay for your meal. The meal price is $3.65 for all guests (small bills or exact dollar amount is greatly appreciated).  If we have already scanned your ID this year, you can avoid waiting in line and have your badge pre-printed. Click on this form and we will have your badge ready! If you did not RSVP for the Feast but want to attend, you are welcome to bring a sack lunch and join us!

On Friday morning, our CCE students enjoyed a moving and informative Veteran’s Day program.  Special thanks to Mrs. Martin, the 5th grade performers and our veterans for sharing their experiences serving our country.

I would like to express my gratitude to those of you who have served or have a loved one serving in our military.  Your service and sacrifice is appreciated. I am truly thankful to work at such a lovely and compassionate school.

Thanks so much,
Mrs. McDonald

PICTURE RETAKES
For those who ordered a school picture package, if you are not satisfied with your child's pictures, return the entire packet to school and we will hold onto them until re-takes on November 29th.

RECESS
Please make sure your child is dressed for the cold/damp weather. We try to make it outside unless it is raining or freezing temperatures.

MULTIPLICATION MADNESS
3rd Graders now have strategies for multiplying by 0, 1, 2, 4, 5, 8 & 10.
x0=0
x1=the non-one factor
x2= double the non-2 factor
x4= double,double the non-4 factor
x5= half of the non-5 factor’s tens product
x8= double,double,double the non-8 factor
x10= add a zero to the non-10 factor

Yes, fancy language...it’s the same way we learned it but using the language/vocabulary of math.  We are now working on fluency. Please work with your student to gain instant recall of these basic facts.  Then we can reserve our strategies for larger numbers!

HOMEWORK
Planners are completed daily.  Please check and initial your child’s planner nightly.

Students are required to read for a minimum of 20 minutes per night and record a quick response on their reading logs. Signed logs are DUE every Wednesday. Book Bucks are earned with every 100 minutes read. Students can “purchase” books from our “Book Buck Libraries” with 10 book bucks.

Nightly reading is crucial to your child's overall reading success. Reading should be an interactive process, so please remember to initial or sign your child's log before turning it in on Wednesday.

Students should practice math skills 10 minutes nightly.  This could be anything from Education Galaxy, to flashcards or even a series of problems written by a parent.

Each FRIDAY students will receive spelling lists and work. Practice spelling the words correctly and complete the homework packet due each THURSDAY. Spelling Tests will be administered on Fridays.
