Mrs. McDonald's 3rd Grade Class

Sunday, April 7, 2019

Dear Parents,

Congratulations to Exodus for being our marvelous MVP of the week! We enjoyed learning more about our special friend when he shared his banner with us on Tuesday.

Happy Birthday to Ivor on Saturday!

Please make note that our fourth and fifth grade students will be taking the STAAR test on Tuesday and Wednesday. Our campus will be closed to visitors. We ask that all parents refrain from eating lunch with their children these two days. Our lunch schedule will be adjusted for testing, so we cannot guarantee what time your children will be in the lunchroom. Parents are welcome to visit during lunch on any other days.

Warmly,
Sabrina

PAPERS TO BE RETURNED
The April 2nd Tuesday folder had many important papers that need to be returned as soon as possible. If you haven't already returned yours, please send in your child's:  2019-2020 Enrollment Form, and optional parent input form. Thank you!

FREE BREAKFAST FOR ALL STUDENTS ON TUESDAY & WEDNESDAY
Nothing prepares students better for testing than a healthy, satisfying breakfast!  On our upcoming testing days, next Tuesday and Wednesday, breakfast is FREE to ALL students!  Students can start their day off right with a delicious meal in the cafeteria and then head off to their classrooms! If you are testing those days, please arrive at 7:20 a.m. so that you will have plenty of time to get your breakfast and eat before the bell rings!

COMETS FIELD DAY T-SHIRTS!
Order forms have been sent home for Comets Field Day shirts! This year's shirt is cardinal red with a Comet design in white, gray, and black. Stop by the CCE Office to see sample shirts and check sizing. The deadline for ordering the shirts is April 17th. The proceeds from the sale of t-shirts helps pay for the water slides for Field Day. The Essentials teachers thank you for your support!

ROBO LAB
It's time for Robolab! In the spring session, 3rd graders will explore the idea of self-driving cars. We'll build a Lego vehicle, learn the basics of Mindstorms programming, then program our cars to drive around "town" on their own.

Parent volunteers help make Robolab even more fun for everyone. Come join your child and see what they are doing! You do not need to know anything about Legos or programming; you only need to encourage and support them while they program and build. If you can't come for an entire time slot, that's fine! Just add a comment to your signup letting me know what times you will be there.
See the link below for more information, and I hope to see you in Robolab soon!

TAKE ME OUT TO THE BALLGAME!
The CCE Singing Stars Choir will perform the National Anthem Sunday, April 28th at 1:05 p.m. at the Round Rock Express baseball game. We have reserved a large block of infield reserved seat tickets in Section 113 for the game at a discounted rate of $12.00 per ticket. (There is an extra charge for parking at the stadium) Sundays are Kids Days, so there are several activities at the stadium geared toward kids. The RR Express uses Groupmatics for group sales now so your ticket purchases will be easy and online. To purchase tickets go here. We hope to have a large CCE presence at the game!

We were told by the Express staff that CCE Singing Stars Choir is the only group that has performed the National Anthem ALL 20 years of their existence! Quite a tradition!

STUDENT COUNCIL COMMUNITY PROJECT
From April 8-18, the Canyon Creek Student Council will be hosting a donation drive to benefit Texas Humane Heroes, an animal shelter for dogs and cats in our area. Please consider donating new dog toys, canned dog food, canned cat food, Purina Brand Beggin' Strip dog treats, paper towels and dish soap. Thank you for participating in our animal shelter donation drive.

HOMEWORK:
Planners are completed daily.  Please check and initial your child’s planner nightly.

Students are required to read for a minimum of 20 minutes per night and record a quick response on their reading logs. Signed logs are DUE every Wednesday. Book Bucks are earned with every 100 minutes read. Students can “purchase” books from our “Book Buck Libraries” with 10 book bucks.

Nightly reading is crucial to your child's overall reading success. Reading should be an interactive process, so please remember to initial or sign your child's log before turning it in on Wednesday.

Students should practice math skills 10 minutes nightly.  This could be anything from Education Galaxy, to flashcards or even a series of problems written by a parent.

Each FRIDAY students will receive spelling lists and work. Practice spelling the words correctly and complete the homework packet due each THURSDAY. Spelling Tests will be administered on Fridays.
