Happy New Year!

Dear Parents,

Happy Birthday to Sanmita! We enjoyed celebrating her birthday on Friday!

Happy New Year! We had a great week getting back into all of our routines for third grade. We’re taller, we’re sporting new haircuts, and we have lots to say about all the wonderful experiences and gifts we received over the holidays. We are looking forward to new learning discoveries and the start of a wonderful semester. We have many fun and engaging units of study coming up as we prepare for fourth grade.

Enjoying your children,
Mrs. McDonald

THIRD GRADE AND CCE CAMPUS NEWS

January Character Trait: HELPFUL

WELCOME to the second semester!  At this point students should have fluency with basic multiplication facts and using strategies for problem solving/reading comprehension without reminders.  We will be adding an additional item to our existing morning work routine, so being on time and using the time well is essential. The pace and rigor will pick up this semester as well!

REPORT CARDS
Report cards will be in this week's Tuesday folder. Please sign one of the copies and return to school in the brown envelope.

SCHOOL SUPPLIES
This is also a great time to re-fresh your child’s supply of glue sticks, markers, colored pencils, and sharpened pencils. Many students have misplaced their colored pencils and markers and most of them have used up the glue sticks and the eraser on their pencils! Thank you!

PARENT CLIMATE SURVEY
Please take a few moments to participate in the 2018 Parent Climate Survey today.  Each day staff, students and volunteers at Canyon Creek Elementary work hard to ensure academic programs and the campus environment meet the needs of all children. The survey will only be open until February 9th. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/2019_FamilySurvey

Did you know that your 3rd - 5th grades students also take the climate survey? This is  the primary way that the district gets information from students about what they like about their schools and the things that could be better. The results from both surveys  are used as part of the campus improvement planning (CIP) process.Thank you for your participation. You are a critical part of our success!

SCIENCE FAIR INFORMATION
Science Fair projects are due no later than 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 16th. The projects should be taken to the Science Lab.

CCE STEAM NIGHT
Hope you will join us on Thursday, January 24, 2019 from 6 p.m.-7:00 p.m for a fun evening of scientific experimentation and demonstration at our Annual CCE STEAM Night! . We will be showcasing all of our Science Fair projects as well.

HOMEWORK
Planners are completed daily.  Please check and initial your child’s planner nightly.

Students are required to read for a minimum of 20 minutes per night and record a quick response on their reading logs. Signed logs are DUE every Wednesday. Book Bucks are earned with every 100 minutes read. Students can “purchase” books from our “Book Buck Libraries” with 10 book bucks.

Nightly reading is crucial to your child's overall reading success. Reading should be an interactive process, so please remember to initial or sign your child's log before turning it in on Wednesday.

Students should practice math skills 10 minutes nightly.  This could be anything from Education Galaxy, to flashcards or even a series of problems written by a parent.

Each FRIDAY students will receive spelling lists and work. Practice spelling the words correctly and complete the homework packet due each THURSDAY. Spelling Tests will be administered on Fridays.
