Mrs. McDonald's 3rd Grade Class

Sunday, February 17, 2019

Dear Parents,

Congratulations to Sanmita for being our marvelous MVP of the week! We enjoyed learning more about our special classmate when she shared her banner with us.

A huge Thank You to Jeanette Dunbar, Veena Hosur, and to all who helped make our Valentine’s Day party such a success! The celebration included a CUTE craft with Bamboo, yummy treats, and finally the best part of all, opening of our Valentines! Thank you all for my cards with sweet sentiments, delicious treats, and love!

Friendly reminder… no school on Monday and Tuesday.  Enjoy your loooong weekend!

Gratefully,
Mrs. McDonald

February Character Trait: OPEN-MINDED

LIBRARY SPRING READING INCENTIVE
The library Spring Reading Incentive is in full swing! Packets with reading logs have gone home. All reading logs are due February 28 to receive your free theme park tickets. For Six Flags, read 6 hours. For Schlitterbahn, read 10 hours. The same reading can be used for both, but the but the two reading logs need to be filled out individually. You can get another copy of the form HERE or on the LIBRARY WEBSITE. Our class goal is a 100% participation and the kiddos can earn some extra book bucks by turning in the completed logs! Congratulations to those who have already reached their reading goal!

LIBRARY ACCOUNTS FROM HOME
Did you know that you your student can check their library accounts from home? All you need is their student ID number (without the "s") CLICK HERE or THIS PAGE on the library website to learn how.

SPRING PICTURES
Your child’s spring picture proofs were sent home in Tuesday folders this week. We ask that you place your order and turn it in to your child’s teacher by Friday, February 22nd.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR MULTICULTURAL FAIR
The Multicultural Fair is one of the biggest events at CCE! This year it is on Friday, March 8th. We need a lot of volunteers to make the event a success. Please sign up here to volunteer.

If you have a Middle or High Schooler who would like to volunteer at the MCF, they can sign up here. They will receive volunteer hours.

HOMEWORK
Planners are completed daily.  Please check and initial your child’s planner nightly.

Students are required to read for a minimum of 20 minutes per night and record a quick response on their reading logs. Signed logs are DUE every Wednesday. Book Bucks are earned with every 100 minutes read. Students can “purchase” books from our “Book Buck Libraries” with 10 book bucks.

Nightly reading is crucial to your child's overall reading success. Reading should be an interactive process, so please remember to initial or sign your child's log before turning it in on Wednesday.

Students should practice math skills 10 minutes nightly.  This could be anything from Education Galaxy, to flashcards or even a series of problems written by a parent.

Each FRIDAY students will receive spelling lists and work. Practice spelling the words correctly and complete the homework packet due each THURSDAY. Spelling Tests will be administered on Fridays.
